What SwipeAudit can and cannot check
The information a statement prints determines what can be verified. The free preliminary check catches some unsupported formats before you start a full audit; it cannot guarantee a complete result.
What the pricing model reveals
Interchange-plus
When an exact Visa or Mastercard program, statement period and calculation basis can be matched to an approved official catalog row, SwipeAudit can compare the billed interchange. It can also check arithmetic when the statement prints the rate, transaction count and fee. Processor markup and contract terms still need your agreement.
Tiered pricing
Qualified, mid-qualified and non-qualified tiers are processor-defined. They cannot be treated as published Visa or Mastercard interchange programs. We can explain the displayed costs and identify questions; we cannot infer the processor’s underlying interchange or prove a downgrade from a tier label alone.
Bundled pricing and bill-back
Bundled network costs, discounts withheld from settlements, and prior-period bill-back can make a simple fee total misleading. SwipeAudit can produce a limited report with questions for the processor while withholding an effective rate and calculated dollar claims it cannot verify.
Flat-rate pricing
Without itemized interchange there is no network-by-network pass-through comparison. A statement may still permit basic arithmetic and an effective-rate calculation if the necessary totals are shown. We do not infer an interchange-plus quote from a blended rate.
Current format limits
| Statement feature | Current handling |
|---|---|
| One merchant, text-based U.S. dollar PDF | Screened, then analyzed when extraction and validation succeed |
| Several locations in one statement | Limited report and possible comparison of printed processing lines; overall effective rate withheld when totals do not reconcile |
| Mixed prior-period adjustments or separately settled Amex Direct | Limited report identifying scope and processor questions; effective rate withheld when fee and volume bases differ |
| Bundled plan-code discounts with settlement withholdings | Limited report and possible free check of printed plan formulas; effective rate and unverifiable dollar comparisons withheld |
| Foreign-currency markers | Declined when detected |
| Scanned PDF without usable text | Cannot be analyzed |
| Discover, regional PIN debit or unknown programs | No exact published-network discrepancy claimed without an approved match |
The preliminary check cannot guarantee a complete audit. A limited full report can consume an audit entitlement when extraction succeeds; a declined attempt does not.
If your statement is declined
An unsuccessful or unsupported attempt does not consume an audit. Ask your processor for a text-based monthly statement for one merchant account with a clear breakdown of volume and fees.
Check your own statement
The free preliminary PDF check tells you whether a known unsupported format is detected. It does not use an audit credit or promise that every line can be analyzed.
